Northwestern Bell "Excursion" 39205 Cordless Phone
Mar 06 '00
The Northwestern Bell "Excursion" Model 39205 is advertised as a "Genuine Bell" product, but more importantly it's a very nice sounding, reasonably priced little 900MHz cord-free telephone. It sports 40 channels, 65,536 randomly picked security codes, 10 user-programmable number memories, paging, last number redial, out-of-range warning, low battery warning, pulse or tone dialing, flash function, auto and manual channel selection, microphone mute, ringer on/off and a 2-level volume selector (normal & louder). Two included features that I particularly like are the belt clip and the little jack on the side so that you can connect a headset (optional) for truly hands-free operation. These aren't usually found on a cordless phone with a street price of about $25 to $30 (depending upon where you buy it).
All of this said, no cordless phone is worth the money unless it sounds good, and today, it's possible for a cordless to sound every bit as good as a corded phone. The NW Bell "Excursion" 39205 does. Around my house and yard it's noise-free and drop-out-free. That's all that I feel I ask from it. The handset unit seems as rugged as any I've seen and it's rechargeable NiCd battery pack seems to just go and go between recharges. It comes in a wide variety of colors as long as that color is basic black. Seriously, black is it, but at least it doesn't show every fingerprint! The NW Bell 39205 is the kind of cordless phone you'd want to buy if you need 4 or 5 reliable, good sounding cordless phones scattered around your house (as we have) and you don't don't want to pay a small fortune to buy them. In fact you can have 4 or 5 of them for the price that you'd pay for one of the newer, fancy-shcmancy spread-spectrum digital jobs!
