| jmm1021's Full Review: Aiptek Pencam Trio Webcam |
Remember those old James Bond flicks where James would be given a pen that was really a camera? Well, forget the movies, Q must work for Aiptek now. This camera, really just a memory stick with a lens and a pocket clip, gives the user a lightweight feel and idiot-proof shooting.
I have owned digital cameras in the past, but they can be heavy, bulky or just complex in connectivity. This PenCam offers 80 digital photos in high-resolution mode (.9 fps for CIF) and 360 shots in low-resolution mode .20 fps for QCIF), as well as web cam and digital camcorder capabilities in a shell that weighs about as much as a "C" cell battery and is a bit bigger than my thumb. The unit uses 2-AAA batteries reducing cost of replacement cells and batteries last for about 2 hours in picture mode or 2 weeks in stand-by (Web-cam mode).
Right from the box (I'm an engineer, instructions are for the foolish in this world), I was taking high quality pics. The software installation was a breeze and the two CDs are loaded with photo and video applications. Make sure you have a USB port and the connectivity is plugging in an earphone to your old transistor radio... remember those? This unit also has an automatic light gauge that beeps and tells you if it is too dark for shots.
I went from unwrapping the present to uploading my first pics to the family website in literally 10 minutes. For $80, this is a deal that just cannot be beaten! I recommend this for anyone who loves gadgets and especially for anyone that owns a home (great for recording home inventory with the touch of a button. Also great for busy executives or manufacturing managers who want to record observations in the workplace.
