Do you listen to AM / Talk Radio?

I listen to traffic, news, sports and Rush. At least I did until I replaced my factory cassette deck with an after-market CD head unit*. AM is now no longer an option unfortunately. While I am not going to change back to the factory cassette deck, not getting AM required some listening habit adjustments. I now listen to NPR and get most of my news there. Not Rush though.

What you should know when you are changing over to an after-market head unit is that many of them will either not receive AM at all or do very poorly with it. Were I to do it again, I would be sure that I could return the deck if it did not receive AM signals satisfactorily. If getting AM reception is important to you, asking this question up front and before any installation has taken place could save you a real headache later on.

*Definition - Whether the piece in your dash with the AM/FM tuner is called a head unit, deck, player, receiver, whatever, it all means pretty much the same thing: It is where you insert a cassette, CD, or MD, turn a volume knob up, and hopefully get music playing forth from the loudspeakers in your car.
