| AFFCUWebmaster's Full Review: Sony CDX-4250 CD Receiver Camcorder |
I purchased the CDX-4250 after numerous problems with a high-end version of the AIWA cd unit. Because I trust Sony and have witnessed how well their CD products play scratched discs I was certain that this unit would give me less grief.
After having the unit installed at a local Best Buy I was amazed to hear the quality of sound that this low end player emitted. It was much improved over the Aiwa and caused less distortion over my cheap speakers. I intend to upgrade the speakers soon to get more out of this player.
As far as skipping is concerned the Sony played the worst of my scratched discs as if it contained an anti-skip mechanism found only on the $300+ models. I have owned the unit for nearly 2 weeks and have witnessed only 2 bump related skips. That's not saying much considering the fact that the CDs playing looked like they had been finished with sand paper.
Some of the features I miss are the colorful display and a steering wheel remote. I purchased this unit because I thought it would accept an optional remote, but that wasn't the case. If I had another choice I would have picked up the 4750 model. The benefits of a steering wheel remote extend further than just looking cool. This helps you operate the stereo without ever removing your eyes from the road.
If you're looking for a quality CD unit at a low price this one is the ticket. For slightly less ($50-$70) You can purchase the 4750 and a remote.
