SD-1009 -- Great Performance/Price

Jan 05 '00

If you're looking for a player that will give some bang for little buck, the Toshiba SD-1009 is the one to look at. I don't have a big home entertainment system with surround sound and all the like, but I wanted a DVD player that would take me into the next generation of home movies without paying the ultimate price for it. I found mine at Sam's Club for $229. With it being Dolby Digital and DTS ready it is ready to grow with your system. It also has a 3D option which simulates 3D surround sound on stereo speakers. It is very easy to setup and use, setup being plugging everything in, turning it on and choosing a screen width (it uses a special mode if you own one of those fancy widescreens). My favorite function with this DVD player is its 4X Zoom ability. I also do not own a big screen TV (I'm still in 25" land) so movies that are only available in widescreen format often look too small on my set. The zoom feature allows me to get that standard view feel from my tv without having a DVD that has both widescreen and standard views. To close on the only negative I could find from this product, after watching 10 movies, it did skip once on Saving Private Ryan for about a 1/2 second. Other than that, what can I say, but great system.
