| Placidman's Full Review: Paradigm CC-350 Center Speaker |
Paradigm ( pronounced Para "dime " ), is a Canadian speaker manufacturer, well known to audio reviewers, and audiophiles alike for their award winning, outstanding, speaker design. The CC-350 continues in that tradition in my humble opinion.
The CC-350 features two 6.5 inch injection molded co-polymer polypropylene woofers, flanking a 1 inch pure titanium dome ferro fluid damped/cooled tweeter. The unit features a 4th order electro/acoustic crossover, which does so at 1.8khz. It's low frequency extension is 50hz, with a rated room sensitivity of 90db. It's power rating is 15 to 175 watts, so it should work well with most any application. It's 7 inches high, 22 inches wide, 9 3/4 inches deep, and weighs approximately 25 lbs.
Technical info aside, let's talk about the speaker's qualities! This unit struck a perfect balance with my main speakers which are Paradigm Reference, Eclipse/BP bipolars. The CC-350 creates a seamless sound stage, with outstanding clarity and depth. The unit is well made, the tweeter is protected by a triangular shaped piece of molded plastic. The woofer cones are so solid that they have an almost plastic type texture. The unit has a large port in the rear, and it's speaker connectors are gold plated multiway binding posts. I have the Toshiba TW40X81 HDTV ready widescreen TV, ( see my review of that unit here at epinions ) and the CC-350 sits upon it quite comfortably. The CC-350 can play loud, maintains a smooth delivery without sounding harsh. Vocal content is clear, and music is enveloping. I have a sub woofer, but I have played my system full channel with the sub woofer crossover turned off to test the sonic qualities, and bass response of the entire system. The CC-350's bass response is excellent, and it is quite capable of handling the bass associated with movie soundtracks.
If you are building your home theater, and are looking for a center channel speaker with heart, give the CC-350 an audition. If possible ensure that it, (like all center channel speakers should be ) is a sonic match with your main speakers. This will ensure a solid sound stage across the front of your listening room. Paradigm is the best! ( In my humble opinion of course ). If there are any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at Placidman@about.com
