I have this particular receiver in my house. I think the quality of the product is excellent. I use this in my living room where I have a Yamaha CD Player and my Toshiba VCR and 32" Toshiba TV running through it. I use this particular receiver for my surround sound in my living room.
I purchased it quite a while back and when I did I made sure of the compatibility for DVD when I choose to add that component. Now, I do regret that I did not purchase what is called an AC-3 converter because now all DVD players on the market have optical input/outputs. This particular Yamaha receiver does not have optical input/outputs so I do feel I will be upgrading when I go that route.
But, for the moment this is working great for the setup I have at home currently. It has several "modes" which changes the settings in audio playback ranging from rock concert to theater. You can set the audio playback to "phantom" mode which is great if you don't have a center channel for surround sound. This amp was top of the line when I purchased it and of course technology is constantly changing but the quality of this amp I'm sure is of the same as any Yamaha product on the market. It does have Dolby enhanced buttons so you can watch and listen to movies in Dolby surround. It is also a 100 watt system.
