| jnoschese's Full Review: MPTrip MP3-CD Player |
I bought this product back in June, however, it looks exactly the same as the picture shown, except mine says "mp3" instead of "MpTrip."
I bought this player because of the fact that I can cram a few albums on one CD and I can listen to what I want on the way to and way from work.
I was very excited to receive this mp3 player, since it was (at the time) the only one on the market and the Mambo-X wasn't released. I couldn't wait any longer and had to try out a mp3 cd player.
The walkman boasted a long playback time with two AA batteries. This didn't seem to hold true for me. They seem to last only a few hours if that before I wanted to replace them to make sure I would still be able to listen to my music.. It allows rechargable batteries, but I've never tried it.
It has 5 built-in "EQ" settings, which are actually quiet good.
The sound quality of the walkman is great, they sound just like mp3's do on the computer, depending on quality of the mp3s.
I've made several mp3 CD's with directory structures and it plays all the files, however, it seems to pick an order I can't understand all the time.
Trying to play a regular CD, it takes a little longer to find the tracks then it does with an mp3 CD. But they play and the sound quality is great.
The headphones that it comes with are lacking, but if you switch them with another pair, its excellent.
The 45-second anti-skip protection seems to do a great job, but this might be why the batteries die so quickly? And there is no way to turn off the protection.
I think the walkman would break before it would actually skip due to the fact that the construction looks and feels home-made or bought off the streets of NYC.
Plugging into my stereo via the line-out jack, works fine. The sound level is quiet lower than my regular CD player, but you really can't complain.
I've never tried out the memo feature, but I don't think any one would use that anyway.
The product is great for one of the first mp3 CD walkman's out there. You can store as many mp3's you could store on a CDR and it plays them. Even variable bit-rated mp3's, and you can't beat the price.
If you can burn your on CD's, and you want to cram a lot of music on one disc, give it a shot!
I'm looking forward to some higher-quality mp3 cd players soon. I see some of the bigger brands are coming out already.
