I purchased the Tascam 102mk2 to be used in an on-air radio studio.
I found this unit to be Very durable under heavy usage by many people.
It looks, feels and acts like a commercial piece of equipment. The buttons are large and easy to see/use. Though the tape/door mech. is not as "smooth" in operation like most consumer equipment it has the durability not found in other consumer equipment.
I have had, and used other 102's before and understand that the company used the same type of capstan motors as before. Unlike most Sony capstan motors (life expectancy of 6 months) I can expect 12 to 18 months of heavy usage out of the Tascams.
About the only drawback I see is that they could add balanced output for commercial use.
I believe that anyone looking for a durable/reliable cassette unit and not concerned about the "smooth" look/operation found in other brands should consider the Tascam 102.
