amytart's Full Review: Nikon Action (7x35) Binocular
Heehee..just kidding. I'm not a Peeping Tom..but for those of you that are just reading this because you are...SHAME ON YOU.
Now...onto the review. I bought this Nikon 7x35 Naturalist IV for a number of reasons. 1.) The price. 2.) Recommendations from others. 3.) The price. 4.) Things I had read while researching them. 5.) Did I mention price?
When I first started looking into binoculars...I was dumbfounded by how much some of them cost. I knew that I needed to spend a bit of money for quality...but there was no way that I was shelling out 1000 dollars for a pair of hyped up magnifying glasses. SO...I did what I do best...I bargain hunted. I eventually stumbled across the Nikon 7x35 Naturalist IV. I had heard good things from online reviews and from friends into binoculars and that sort of thing. They were cheaper than the rest at around 90 bucks...and I was ready to go for it...so I reached deep into my pockets and walah...I found pocket lint. Just kidding...I paid for them and took those babies home.
You might be asking...what does a high school teacher who teaches HISTORY need a pair of binoculars. Great question!! Extra bonus points for you. Well, actually, I was going on a trip to Africa and wanted a pair of binoculars for the safari trip we had planned. Trips to Africa are NOT cheap...and with the money I had left over...including the pocket lint...I bought these binoculars. I was praying that they did me right.
They did. This pair of binoculars are perfect for the average Joe who isn't a field researcher needing to see parasites on animal's skin. I don't know much about binoculars or cameras or anything like that...so don't expect smart binocular jargon used in this epinion. If you want to know detailed scientific stuff...read someone else's. If you are still reading...GOOD for you!! Because I plan on telling you what the average Joe wants to know about binoculars.
First off: The clarity and the focusing of the binoculars themselves is tremendously easy. I can't even explain to you how clear the images I was looking at were. There was one point of our safari where this Baboon had caught a dick-dick (a small deer-like creature) and was eating it like a buffet table. As gross as that sounds...these binoculars brought me right up close to Mr. Baboon at suppertime. We had to be about 200-300 yards from him and I felt like I was waiting for seconds. These binoculars are also very easy to use. Take it from me...the person that has trouble finding the button on a camera...they are VERY easy to use.
Second: The price was right. I think I mentioned that before.
Third: The actual weight and comfort level of the binoculars were incredible. I've hefted some pretty chunky ones before and this one seemed like a feather in comparison. It was easily lugged around with it's handy dandy strap and carrying case and it wasn't a pain in my butt to keep bringing up to look through.
Fourth: Whoever the brilliant woman/man who invented this....I want to KISS them...they made it so that people who wear glasses to see far away...or just people in general who wear glasses can still use these binoculars without having to take off your eyeglasses...and then look through. They have these cute little rubber rings around the eyeholes that you just pop back and walah...they fit over your glasses...a GODSEND.
I can't say enough about these handy dandy new fangled things. I will say that if you are looking for something of better quality...you'll definitely have to pay for it. These things were not indestructible and you had to be real careful to not drop them or step on them because then you were in big poopoo. They are a great purchase for someone needing binoculars who don't want to pay a lot for them. They work great, and they make you feel like a pro!!
