| e-diva's Full Review: AT&T Mobile Phone Service in Washington/Baltimore |
I signed up for AT&T Digital One rate 600 service a few months back with my employer. I planned on using my cellphone primarily for work. The coverage area looked good and the price was right for what I needed. I purchased a Motorola Startac phone for use with the service.
Previously, I was a satisfied Bell Atlantic customer, but AT&T's new plan and national network seemed more suited to my needs.
I cancelled my service with AT&T after 3 weeks because my telephone would not receive incoming calls reliably. I found I was receiving voicemail while my phone was powered on and near me. When my boss became irritated after he tried to call me and I didn't answer I started checking out the matter. Why have a phone if you're still going to be unreachable?
I verified and duplicated the problem over a period of a day or so; watching a friend pick up the phone, dial my number, and get put through to voicemail telling them I wasn't available.
I called support and was put through to a woman who clearly wasn't interested in my situation. I told her that on the last try my phone had 2 bars of signal when someone tried to call me and that the call didn't go through, yet at other times calls WERE going through.
The support rep immediately picked up on the 2 bars of signal comment and very definitively stated, "Oh your phone has to have three or four bars of signal showing before someone can get through to you". Odd, Bell Atlantic's service with the same style phone never required that before.
I told the woman that if I couldn't get reliable calls on this phone I wouldn't be able to use the service. She didn't much care, replying with, "Oh okay. Is there anything else I can help you with today?"
I hung up, called around and got back with Bell Atlantic, using the same model phone. Phone calls come in as long as my phone is receiving at ANY signal strength and I haven't heard a complaint of a missed call yet. I've learned my lesson - avoid AT&T.
