| Ruedenim2's Full Review: Audiovox CDM4000 |
If you're looking for a reliable phone, then this is not the way to go.
I bought this phone in Nov. '99. In April this phone quit working. It took forever to get in touch with anyone from Audiovox. They said that we had to mail the phone in so they could do tests before they would give us a new phone. After a month and a half had passed, we still had no phone. Prime matrix sent us a Samsung 211 as a "loaner". To this day I still don't know whether or not the phone has been fixed.
Enough with my bad experiences with Audiovox. To talk about the good. This phone is SMS compatible. It has plenty of melodies to choose from. It picks up the signal well. It can use a headset that is PCS compatible. It has a graphical display part of the time, like voice mail notification and charging. It has all of the features you will really need. Plenty of ring tones. It is nice and compact.
OK, more of the bad. That graphical display is very cartoonie and is not very business-like. The menu is terrible. Navigation is so much of I chore that I found myself not wanting to even play with the phone when I first got my hands on it, like I usually do. The circle shaped button causes you to push the wrong direction and mess up what you are doing. The words are really hard to read on the screen.
This phone doesn't support the wireless web, which isn't something that you need, but rather something that you want. The charger is hard to use and doesn't give you any notice when it is done or how long it has to go. There is just a cartoon gas pump. The phone is flat which makes it harder to talk with. But thats understandable because it is thin.
With smaller phones and better features available, this phone is a bad choice. My experiences with this company would keep me from ever buying any of their products again. If you want a strong phone without a lot of features, then I suggest a Motorola. If you demand features, then Nokia and Samsung are the way to go.
****************************************************
Here's an update. This phone finally came. Out of the blue they sent us a new phone. OVER THREE MONTHS LATER. That's what I mean about a bad company. Things break. That's understandable. Its how you deal with it. They should've sent us a new phone within the hour. How long does it take to realize that the phone is broken. If you get this phone you are gambling. It may not break, but if it does its called screw you! Not worth the gamble!
