Beware ATT 600 Plan

Pros:Great Concept
Cons:Falls short of expectations

I have had the ATT 600 one-rate plan for a year now. When I first got the plan, I was using at less than 600 minutes per month and traveling to large metropolitan areas across the country a lot. I really liked the idea of not having any roaming charges, etc.

Upside to this plan:

If you meet the above requirements, you will like the plan.
ATT customer service is exemplary, you can't find better.

Downside to the plan:

I was only given one phone option with this plan, the Nokia 6120 (?) or 6160 (?). First, don't drop the phone, the case will break (near the antenna) every time. Second, I have had to take it back three times in a year due to the display going totally blank. That is a real bummer when you have all of your customer phone numbers saved in the phone....Note to users of this phone: I have found that when this happens, most of the time you need only remove the battery, then replace it. Although you have to reset the time and date, the phone and display still function.

Don't go over your allotted minutes. This plan will bend you over and break it off. The price per minute goes way up over the price paid for the block of 600 minutes.

The coverage of the ATT network in the Dallas/Ft Worth area is much less than desirable. In addition to dead cells, there is an issue of available airspace during peak hours.

There are a number of places along interstate highways (away from large cities) where you get a message that your carrier does not have a roaming agreement with the carrier in that region. That's one way to insure you don't have roaming charges.....

All in all, compared to the other choices I had a year ago, namely Sprint (a lot less coverage nationwide than ATT) and SBMS (all plans included roaming charges if outside their "local" areas), I feel the ATT plan was the best. However, you are definitely penalized for excessive usage, which seems to be the opposite of what it should be.

Don't cancel your land line phone service just yet........
