| wongvi's Full Review: Creative Labs Nomad II (64MB) MP3 Player |
I just bought the Nomad II last night and I found it to be a wonderful product, Creative has truly out done themselves this time with this unit. I was lucky enough to get the blue color version of the Nomad II which I believe looks better than the silver one. Most people complain that there is no on board memory but I found 64MB on the SmartCard to be enough, I can easily fit about 12 songs at normal compression.
The screen is delightful with its GUI interface. You can select music, FM, voice, info, time and settings. Music lets you play mp3s, FM lets you play FM radio, voice lets you hear and record messages using the built in microphone, info displays the amount of free memory and version of the BIOS, time tells you the time and settings allows you to adjust the auto shut off, contrast, and other goodies.
The controls are quite easy to use and I learned it in about 10 minutes. The software is pretty good as well, despite other people's review I think the software is quite good, it allows for easy transfer from the PC to the unit and it also adds a Winamp plug-in along with a CD ripper.
The unit comes with a carrying case, headphones and remote control. The remote control is quite handy but I found it lacking since you can only control, volume, play, pause, stop, fast forward and rewind with it. So if you are listening to mp3s and you want to go and listen to the radio you have to press and hold the play button. It is the same if you want to switch from radio to mp3s. The remote is handy yet it lacks a LCD display like most MDs have. Another thing is once you are playing mp3s and you hit the menu button to check the time or something the music stops.
You can also use this as a portable storage device which is a plus. The BIOS upgrade is very easy, you connect the player with the computer using the USB and double-click the file, I just upgrade it last night! Later there should be further upgrades so this puppy will not be in the dog house anytime soon.
Overall this unit is a beauty but it is quite pricey, however I still would recommend this!
