| fecund's Full Review: Infinity Prelude Left Speaker (Black) |
Over time I have managed to get the entire prelude line(left, right, and center) as well as the matching quadrapoles(qps1). I first bought the center and was completely amazed with the voice reproduction and the sound field it generated. But that was nothing compared to the impression I got from the left and rights.
I spent two monthes looking at speakers, carrying my cds from store to store and ignoring most everything the sales people tried to sell me on. I must have listened to about 15 different brands and about 25 pairs of speakers. But it was worth it.
These speakers set an excellent sound stage and the imaging is superb. Thanks to the driver configuration this is true at all volumes. The strong point of these speakers are their musical accuracy. Kick drums sound like kick drums, high-hats sound like high-hats not just high-frequency clatter. When you turn the volume up the sound is truly visceral. You can close your eyes and point to parts of the music like it was really there. After getting these speakers and listening to my cds over again, I was surprised about how much I had missed.
The speakers however do not have a very good off center response, the person in the center is definitly recieving all the goodies. But for music this is really what you want. You are going to have spend a lot of time placing these speakers, their placement is critical.
One thing to note is because of the high sensitivity and accuracy of these speakers the amp will have tremendous impact on the way the speakers sound, they are not very forgiving. Try to get a Class A amp(even a tube amp) if you are only going to use these exclusively for music.
These speakers give an admirable performance when it comes to home theater as well. You need something of a high end B&W, Meridian or equivalent theater system to best them. (Note: I am not a big fan of electrostatics so I do not mention the Martin Logans)
My only disapointment was with the sub. Although it does produce accurate bass notes it does at a very low volume. You will still need to get a powered sub if you want to thump or shake the room.
I would compare the accuracy of these speakers to that of say a Sonus Fiber but with a much bigger presence and impact.
Music lovers will fall in love with these speakers, no doubt. The home theater experience has been nothing but excellent. Its been over two years since I have bought these speakers and they still sound fresh. Even the people who come over and say "How much did these cost?", admit after listening that they are indeed worth the money.
