| jean_bean's Full Review: AT&T Mobile Phone Service in San Francisco/San Jos... |
In December, my dad signed up for a service through CellularOne. The sales representative told him they did not have the phone available (out of stock). The sales rep said he would contact my dad when the phone came in, and he would activate it when my dad receives the phone. My dad never received the phone and never heard anything about the wireless service until July.
In July, my dad got a phone call from a bill collection agency trying to collect on a CellularOne account; the same account that he had tried to sign up for in December. I was working for a collection agency at the time and my dad prefered that I speak with them because I knew how bill collectors thought. With a bill collection agency, they don't know much about the account history; in fact they only know the balance.
I contacted CellularOne and became very frustrated. I spoke to several people being put on hold and didn't get much accomplished. When I finally got through to the bill collection manager, Rebecca, she told me that because the account was already sent to a bill collection agency, there was nothing she can do about. I talked to her very nicely about the agreement stated on the contract. She told me my dad was responsible for the bill because he signed the contract, and I reminded that contract stated that CellularOne agreed to send my dad a bill every month (which they failed to do). Not only did CellularOne break the agreement, but also my dad never even received the phone (another agreement). How is he to make calls without the phone? After I stated this, Rebecca decided to hang up on me and she would not pick up her phone thereafter.
The monthly fee and taxes acrued from December to June (when the account was terminated) and my dad had not been aware of this because CellularOne decided to go against their contract.
This bad experience has caused me not to even look into CellularOne's services. My dad now has to face bill collectors annoying him and this unpaid bill (which he should not have had to pay) on his credit report.
