| matt_10710's Full Review: Sony SAT-B3 Digital Satellite System |
Pros: Easy to use
Feature-rich
Con: Odd size
The Sony SAT-B3 is a great DirecTV receiver. If you don't need Dolby Digital audio, this one is for you.
The basic interface is great:
+ Channel changing is fast
+ The displays are all transparent so you don't lose track of a show while you check the guide.
+ The remote can control your TV and VCR in addition to the B3.
It has an "IR Blaster" which can control your VCR. This lets you pick a program on the onscreen guide, press 1 button, and it will record it for you. The unit has 2 sets of RCA-type outputs (1 S-Video) so you can hook it up directly to your TV and VCR without a splitter.
The online displays are adjustable for smaller or larger text.
The one con is the odd size -- smaller than a normal stereo component, larger than a cable box. But this only affects you if you want to stack you components, and can't have this one on top.
I've had mine for a few months now, and I have had nothing but enjoyment with it's sharp picture and great features.
