| jpeter's Full Review: Houston Cellular Mobile Phone Service in Houston |
I can describe myself as a happy customer with my Houston Cellular service. I have been with them for almost three years now and they have delivered with good service and quality products.
I originally chose this service after a horrible experience with PrimeCo. My primary complaint with that service is that the phone would not work in many places including within two miles of the sales office. Since I signed up with Houston cellular I have only been in one area that did not have signal.
Both my Company and personal phones are through Houston Cellular. My Co. phone is a Nokia 6160 with a local calling plan that offers about 1500 minutes for about $50.00 per month. My personal phone is a Motorola StarTac on a 200 minute "Great Rates of Texas" plan that gives me free roaming and long distance from anywhere in Texas to anywhere nation wide for about $25.00 per month. Both plans offer voice mail and caller ID service. Neither plan supports instant messaging. Several of my friends have Sprint PCS with the same Motorola phone but Houston Cellular customers do not get the clock feature like the Sprint phone.
My Co. Nokia seams to get slightly better reception and generally more power then the Motorola. Neither phone has many dropped calls. Both phones suffer from an annoying echo where you hear your own voice about one second after you speak the words. Houston cellular is aware of the problem and claims it is due to a upgrading currently going on. Many others in the same sales store were complaining of this as well. Your caller do not hear this and only wonder why you sound distracted. I will update if this changes.
A Houston Cellular phone is a wise choice and my complaints will soon vanish if you have to use the phone in a emergency. In that situation you want it to work, period.
