Sprint- good riddance

Pros:Samsung phones, shared minutes
Cons:quality of service, customer service, willing to stand behind stuff they sell

I chose Sprint because of the convenience and lower costs of no roam/no long distance to selected areas. It has been a nightmare ever since.

I won't go into detail of all the problems- just suffice it to say that their customer service is staffed (well, sort of staffed) by people who have ability to solve problems with the billing system, or with their equipment.

I purchased 2 Qualcomm phones direct from Sprint which just about fell apart one month after I bought them (and only used them in the car, so its not like they were abused). Sprint refused to stand behind these phones, referring me to my local dealer. Needless to say, since I bought the phones direct from my local dealer, he wasn't interested in helping.

Now I am about to replace both phones (at my own expense), and Sprint seems to feel that they deserve a $29.95 fee to switch the numbers. They claim that it is not a warranty issue, and they were never notified. I have copies of my correspondence, but it is just not worth dealing with them.

Their phone service is suspect as well: Roaming seems an iffy proposition, most of the times the phone just doesn't ring at all. The voice mail often calls me the next day to tell me that someone left a message. I have, on average, one of every 5 calls dropped, and in certain ROAM areas, nothing happens when you press the send button.

Sprint (like most providers) traps calls made to 411 or even 555-1212, the information number. You can not access any of the Bell ROC information services. However, the Sprint information operators seem to have their own phone book- or they will connect you to the first number that even sounds close (e.g. ask for Colorado Springs Symphony, get City of Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce).

I will miss my Samsung flip-phone, which only seems to be used by Sprint. I will also miss the ability to have two phones with shared minutes- which came in handy.

However, until Sprint addresses its quality issues, I will switch to another provider.
