Teac Reference 500
Feb 04 '00
After having my Pioneer Elite Mini system obliterated by an airline I needed another mini-system for my bedroom and Pioneer didn't make one any longer, so enters the Teac Reference mini system.
I was thoroughly happy with my old Pioneer and thought that I'd be let down by the Teac, but boy was I wrong.
When the unit arrived and I unpacked it I was immediately struck by the build quality. These are solid units with 1/4 inch machined gold annodized aluminum faceplates. Verrry Nice! After seeing the outside of the units I decided to open 'em up and see if the inside was built as well as the facade...and it is. The amp has a beefy shielded torroidal transformer and design is clean and well organized. Now for the real test, how does it sound?!?
Unfortunately speakers weren't offered as an option when I bought mine, so I bought the Sony ESS-M3 wired up with Wireworld Atlantis biwire and KimberKable PBJ interconnects and was happy with the system, but not blown away. Then I paired it with Missions' 750 Limited Edition bookshelf speakers and then....WOW! Imaging, depth, transparency and speed were all locked in and since then I couldn't ask for a better mini reference system. A fantastic High-End bargain at approximately $1800 for the whole shebang.
