I did not have a choice on services. I got my phone at radioshack for $.01 as long as I signed for 1 year with one of Alltel's plans. The only reason that I did that is because there was no deposit to make and everywhere else wanted a $300+ from me. Since this phone and plan was mainly for my fiance to get in touch with me when he is out of town and I am not home we got one that costs us $36 a month. That is with 15mins. free between Mon.-Fri 6:00am-7:59pm and free from Fri. 8:00pm to Sun. 5:59am. We very rarely use it but when we do we try to make sure it is free. I used it once roaming but it wasn't really that expensive, less than what I was expecting. I am not quite sure how much other service plans are or were at that time but I know that this is a lot cheaper than placing a $300+ deposit plus the monthly charge and cost of phone. I have never had any problems with my billing or anything with Alltel.
