I love video games.
Since I was in diapers playing Pong.. or in Kindergarten playing Combat on the 2600.. or in elemetary school playing Jordan vs Bird on the Commodore 64... or in Jr High knocking peoples teeth in w/ Street Fighter 2...
and then it tapered off. For many years I considered gaming to be fairly boring (with the notable exception of Duke Nukem, Quake 2 and Tribes on the PC platform). The last great console was the original NES. The other gaming platforms offered better graphics, etc. but were simply not fun. I owned a Genesis, Super NES, etc. but rarely actually played them.
The only time I played on these platforms was to play sports sims against my cousin and brother, and this was more a 'social event' than because of any real desire to play.
Enter Dreamcast. I bought the Dreamcast because I no longer owned any console (giving away my Playstation and N64 to some of my teenage cousins). I figured I would get a few sports sims so I could play something w/ my brother when he visited (plus the Dreamcast was going to have Marvel vs Capcom, one of the only franchises I still spent quarters on).
When I picked up the system I also picked up NFL Blitz, NFL 2K and Ready to Rumble. All I can say is the fun is back!! These games have smooth graphics and solid control, but more importantly the platform and the games are genuinely FUN!! I don't know if the software developers are getting better or if there are inherent capabilities in the Dreamcast that makes the interaction more compelling.
Since my initial purchase I have also picked up Soul Caliber which is ALSO a hit!! So far the only game that I am not 100% satisfied w/ in Blitz 2000 (and that is simply because I was expecting ALOT more than the normal Blitz game). I think everyone knows that the longevity and success of a system lies in the quality of its software titles. If the first few games out of the gate are any indication of future Dreamcast titles, this platform will be popular for a long time!!
I highly recommend the Dreamcast. It already has the blockbusters needed to justify the modest price of the console.
