| nquinn's Full Review: Pioneer 5.25" 2-Way Speaker TS-A1387 |
As a car audio employee at Best Buy, I have had much time
to test out these speakers and compare them with the competition.
(Please read on....)
The Pioneer TS-A1387 5.25" speakers are a good inexpensive upgrade
from your car's factory speakers. I often recommend these speakers
to people who are upgrading their factory radio to a aftermarket one
that has much more power (17w x 4 RMS or so)
The speakers are certainly not top of the line, but for the money,
they offer a good upgrade choice.
The speakers offer a relatively warm mid-range. Highs are average,
but still much better than a factory speaker. Bass is somewhat weak,
though pioneer tends to sacrifice the "punch" of bass for responsiveness.
Imaging is *very* directional, so I would not recommend using these
as door speakers.
The power handling on these speakers are average... around 30watts RMS
would be more than enough to push these speakers.
Reliability doesn't seem to be a problem with these speakers, as long as you operate them within their specified range.
Overall, these speakers are a good choice for one looking to upgrade
their factory speakers without spending much money. However, I would not
recommend these speakers if you plan on using an amplifier. A speaker
with bigger power handling would be more appropriate.
