| fromobile's Full Review: Sprint Mobile Phone Service in Kansas City |
The simple fact is they lie. Sprint isn't bad service, necessarily, but they lie constantly.
Lie #1 - IT IS NOT CLEAR SOUNDING!!! Ok, compared to analog, they're right, but they play it up like they're doing something outstanding to their service that makes it sound "like the person you're talking to is standing right next to you"...WRONG. It's just digital service. They say the difference between them and AT&T is that that AT&T still relies largely on Analog. That's true, they do when Digital isn't available. AT&T uses just as much digital as Sprint, except for when it isn't around, in which case it switches to analog FOR FREE. When digital isn't available a Sprint phone is useless. (unless you want to pay them two dollars a minute for analog) When it sounds good, I must admit, it does sound pretty good, but never like land line.
#2 - They lie about their phones. I had an AT&T Motorolla Star Tac that had a battery with a "60 hour" battery. This translated to 2 days of use. Sprint told me thier phone (the samsung sch3500, the top selling phone on the market) was a "120 hour" battery. I thought "wow, that means it last longer than the 60 hour battery." Nope, 2 days. Lie.
#3 Their customer service is so undertrained, and so decentralized (they have call centers across the U.S.)that anything one tells you is not by any means nessecarily true. Also, when one of thier people tells you something wrong, like "don't worry, you wont be charged for this..." and then you are charged and you call back, the next person you talk to has no way of recalling anything that the last person told you. Even though they have a place to write notes, the staff avoids doing it to avoid the reprecussions of giving out false information. That leaves you with nothing exept a stubborn manager who has heard it all before and can only turn you away.
Advice on Making Sprint the Best Cell Service around;
It can be done, you just have to get it just right. Remember, though AT&T is good sounding, they are still the Dark Side; use the Force. AT&T does not care at all. We all know this. Stay away. The most important problem with sprint is the Customer Care. The best way to deal with that is NEVER sign thier contract, unless you are already totally satisfied. ****If you're just starting out keep it month to month. That way you can threaten to leave them, and they do, even to this day, hate that. They'll be more responsive.****
Secondly equate into your monthly bill the 50 minutes of analog package. Then get a good phone that will automatically switch between the two (called dual band). This will keep you from having to pull you hair out every time you can't get digital service. Even after this added expense they still are relatively cheap, especially for anywhere in the U.S. service.
Thirdly get a really good phone. The good thing about Sprint is that they have relatively inexpensive, Dual Band, High quality phones. GET THE SANYO 4000 - $150.00, sounds leaps and bounds better than any other PCS phone, and maybe any other phone, period. GTE and the likes sell you phones for $300 unless you sign, with sprint the pressure isn't there.
Fourth get some wireless web minutes. Sports scores all the time ease the pain of the lies they have fed you.
Now you've got a Cell phone.
