| epinburk's Full Review: Linn Tukan |
The Linn Tukan is an excellent bookshelf style speaker.
Looks.
Speaker cosmetics have come a long way just in the past 3 years. The Tukan has been around a while, and the design may seem a little 80's at first glance; however I think the overall aesthetic fits in with the Linn brand. This company really strives for refinement and this speaker shows it. It's proportions are simple, understated and compact. If your decor is important to you, I think these speakers could manage to fit into a variety of styles. Mine came with black metal stands that have the textured finish of the Linn black-box components. A very nice detail!
Sound.
The Tukan is a feisty little speaker. Tukans are a solid performer -- packs a punch into the small cabinet and reacts well to most music. I use mine within a minimal 2-speaker video system. They add just the right amount of drama to DVDs! Occasionally I listen to recorded music through the Tukans as well. Bear in mind these are small speakers that aren't meant to give you the full spectrum of sound, what they do provide is a very "musical" sound that is easy going on the ears, and will not tire you out.
Audition.
You should always make the time to audition speakers. While listening to them it is recommended that you try to mimic your own setup too! I think the Tukans are a really smart choice; they're small, they sound great and you may be able to find them used since they have recently been replaced by another Linn speaker.
