| vivisector's Full Review: Paradigm CC-350 Center Speaker |
As you know, when setting up a home theater the most important piece of equipment besides possibly a good receiver or pre-amp and amplifier is the center channel speaker. While most people give the most credit to the front sides speakers, the center channel is the one used to convey the most in a movie. It has to convey all voices, most special effects and be timbre and tone matched with the front side speakers to envelope the front sound, instead of showing gaps in the front sonic stage. If you can distinguish between what is being played from the sides and what is coming from the centre channel, you have a major problem.
I have owned the CC350 for a few years now, and after testing against many other types of center speakers, found it to be one of the best at handling this important task. Also being as I have Paradigm Monitor 9 speakers, these seemed to be a perfect match tonally as well. This speaker is large enough to handle all that is thrown at it. With it's 2 6.5" speakers and titanium tweeter it can handle 120W. And with it's flat frequency response from 70Hz - 20KHz with Low Bass Extension to around 50Hz, it really makes movies sound natural and really brings them to life.
As I have said, I have owned these for a while now, and they still don't distort or anything. They really seem to stand up, which is important, because you don't want to be buying new speakers every year or two.
Another thing to look for when buying a center channel speaker, is to make sure it is magnetically shielded. Yes it seems logical that all center channel speakers would be, but I have seen many which aren't. Since the nature of the center channel is to be in the center, it will probably be sitting near or on your tv. When you have non-shielded speakers, your colors on your tv get pulled towards your speaker, resulting in a very poor picture. The Paradigm CC350 is magnetically shielded, so no need to worry about that.
All around I have to say the Paradigm CC350 is the best center channel speaker I have owned, and I recommend you check them out for yourself when making your next purchase.
