The primary reason for buying this television was for us to give our three young children something to do on very long car trips, other than fighting, yelling and screaming!
We bought this TV in Costco. I told my wife that I was hesitant to buy this because I seemed to remember over the years that Consumer Reports always gave RCA televisions low ratings for reliability. But it was either this one or a Gold Star brand, and I had once had a Gold Star TV for one day before I returned it to the store.
The best features of this T.V.
1) Obviously the AC/DC operation!
This was the main reason we bought this TV. When not used in the car, this was kept in the kitchen on a 'Lazy Susan.'
2) Simple easy-to-use controls and remote.
Some remotes these days take a magnifying glass to find and use the small buttons. This remote is simple and the buttons are easy to use.
3) Easy to read manual
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to work this TV
When we first starting using this TV, we thought it was pretty good. It appeared to sound ok, and the picture from the VCR tapes was ok was in the car. The TV was hooked to cable in the kitchen so the picture from the television was ok.
Then one day one of the kids said, "Hey, this Cinderella tape is broken!"
I looked at the picture and it appeared the tracking was way off. I ejected the cassette and put it back in. Same problem. I put in another tape and it played ok. I thought, "I'd better hold on to this Cinderella tape, just in case it's the TV!" The other VCR in the house was also having it's own problems so I couldn't judge if the tape was ok or not.
What I dislike about this TV
1) AS CONSUMER REPORTS SAID, RCA IS UNRELIABLE!!! It turned out that the VCR in the TV had a problem. I returned it to COSTCO and got it replaced. Within 3 months the exact same problem reoccurred. It would not play ANY tapes after a while. Costco refunded my money and I bought another brand (AIWA).
2) I realize now after getting the AIWA, that the picture and sound on the RCA really was terrible. The AIWA is not AC/DC powered (it doesn't matter anymore because we bought a NISSAN QUEST a few months ago that has a built in VCR) but the sound and picture on it is exceptional. I didn't know what I was missing with the RCA.
My biggest complaint on this TV IS the reliability and for that I have to say thumbs down....not recommended!
