| mike_d_pgh's Full Review: Aiwa NSX-MT725 Digital Mini Theater System |
I currently own two Aiwa stereo systems, and I love both of them. I purchased my first one about 6 years ago, and it's still going strong. After being sold by Aiwa's strong sound and good value, 2 years ago I purchased an older version of the MT725. Mine has 240 watts of total power and does not have programmable eq settings. Every other feature seems about the same.
The sound quality of Aiwa systems is superb. You'll sit and stare at the speakers wondering how such full, rich sound is coming out of something so small. This unit sounds better than other systems that I have listened to that are twice the price.
The system is very easy to use. The buttons are large and legible without squinting. Aiwa packs a lot of features into this system. Among them are T-bass (to vary the amount of bass response), BBE (adds clarity to the highs), preset equalizer settings, Dolby Pro Logic surround sound, a karaoke feature, subwoofer output, and dual cassette decks. The BBE feature is one of my favorites. As you are listening to a CD, you can change the BBE level and hear quite a difference in the sound quality.
The system records CD's onto cassettes with extreme clarity. There is also a feature that people that record a lot of cassettes from CD's will appreciate. You can program songs from all 3 CD's loaded into the player and the system will record one side of a tape for you, making sure that the time on the tape is best utilized and the last song is not cut-off of the tape.
The FM reception of the unit is not the greatest....but that is not a big deal to me. 98% of the time I listen to CD's.
There is one addition to the system that I would highly recommend. I purchased an Acoustic Research 50 watt 8" powered subwoofer to add to my system. I have the system's T-bass set to the lowest setting so that the bass is not overwhelming. The built in crossover in the subwoofer keeps low bass frequencies from going to the Aiwa's main speakers, which means more crystal clear sound from them. With the subwoofer, the system truly sounds fantastic. My cousin has a $2000 Bose system, and I can honestly say that the Aiwa sounds just as good.
Aiwa's have only gotten better in the last couple of years since I purchased mine. The price has gone down even more, and more features are being added. Everybody that I know that owns an Aiwa loves it (I've recommended them to many people). The combination of value and sound quality can't be beat. Next time I'm shopping for a home system, you can be sure I won't look any further than Aiwa.
