NAD for sound lovers. I run NAD CD 522, amplifier 214, speakers 804 and 116. When I was selecting the system, the choice was between 114 and 116. Due to the price tag, 118 was not an option for me.
When listening one may notice some change(s) to the sound when 114 is inserted between the player and amplifier. However it's not the case with 116, it appears completely transparent to my ear when it works, it does what's supposed to do, pre-amplify, not to damage the sound.
I moved the system several times, so touched rear panel of 116 to disconnect/connect cables several times. After a number of such moves, the external contact, which is galvanized to the board inside the unit, broke. It's not something one would expect from NAD. If you have basic instruments, one may repair it herself.
Anyhow, the final sound of the whole system based on 116 in incredible. You just forget it's played from CD after some time of listening.
