You have a computer, get a DVD player for that instead!!

I'll give you a few reasons why a DVD player for your computer is more practical and probably less expensive than a stand alone DVD piece of equipment for your home theater. There are a few steps to this process, and it can' be done on a laptop, so if you own a laptop, you probably should get a stand alone.

1) You most likely will need to upgrade your video card in order to have the DVD accelerator on-board as well as have a TV-out connection to hook up to your home Theater. My suggestion on the card is a Diamond Viper V770 with TV-out, but you may prefer the ATI Rage Fury TV-out because it is a bit cheaper about $100 (or less) on http://www.pricewatch.com. This is beneficial for more than just playing DVD's, because it gives you the current technology in video cards that allows you to play Quake III with ease!

2) You need to purchase a DVD drive, and these can be had for less than $100 on priceline.com. The installation is fairly simple. I really don't have an opinion on particular DVD drives although I feel that the name brand drives aren't really worth the money.

3) Once the installation is complete, you have a few advantages (and one disadvantage) that this set-up offers. First, you can now show anything that's on your computer on your TV. This means anything besides DVD's, which may have an advantage somewhere down the road. Also, you can play DVD's directly to your computer screen in case you want to browse the disk easily without the whole home-theater stuff. The only disadvantage is that you need to have your computer directly linked to the TV, meaning that you either place the computer nearby the TV or you buy a long cord.c
Now if you own either a DVD ready video card with TV-out in your computer or you have a DVD drive already all you need to do is buy the other half to the equation. Oh, and one more thing, buy the DVD dive bare and OEM that way you can save more money (and not waste it on the decoder card, which you don't need with a good video card). Ok that should do ya!!
