Off road drivers can even enjoy CD sound thanks to this receiver with ESP.(Electronic Shock Protection). You won't hear this unit ever skip. The SSIR-EX tuner is one of Sony's best tuner. The tuner has great radio station pulling power. This has two sets of preamp outputs plus a subwoofer output with a low-pass filter make this receiver an exceptional multi-amp system controller. You can add a Sony CD changer and you'll be equipped with Custom File programming. You can even have a three source system if desired by adding an MD changer. This receiver has a 5 color dot matrix display with an electro luminescent backlight for enhanced visibility. Some key features include: Detachable fold down face, multicolor display, CD Text, ESP, CD/MD changer controls, Custom File programming, and two optional remotes, wired, or wireless.
Value...
Sony is one of the most well known brands of car audio and other audio products as well. Very respected everywhere. They produce some awesome high performance head units with unbelievable sound. The features are unlimited. This deck is for a component system like most Sony decks. Not really a good radio for a first system because the general features can be found much cheaper, but definitely a nice piece of equipment.
In Dash...
I like their in dash CD players, but not for their style or how they look. They have some of the best decks but their style is way out. They're the most non-appealing receivers that I've seen. The unit itself has good options, and many other great features but the style is not appealing at all. This receiver sounds great but looks awful. I don't understand how their receivers can be top of the line yet very unattractive. I'd recommend this deck to someone that's looking to put in a serious competition system, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that's looking to impress their friends with style.
