This system provides the perfect solution for a college dorm room or small apartment. The receiver is adequately powerful, and provides enough inputs to satisfy any music lover. The only problem with this system is the speakers. At high volumes, the speakers tend to sound a bit "tinny", and are easily overpowered by the subwoofer at low volumes. However, for apartments or dorm rooms, the volume cannot be on that loud, and this system does nicely. In addition, the receiver and sub-woofer are high quality and can serve as a nice base for speaker upgrades once you move to larger accommodations.
I bought this system because I wanted a home theater system, and was only on a limited budget. In addition, I liked the fact that the receiver would be able to handle any future speaker upgrades.
I have had no problems with this system, though I do not play music at high volumes on a regular basis. I question the durability of the speakers.
Loves:
Expandable receiver and sub-woofer
Affordable home theater
Kenwood reputation
Hates:
Average speakers are over-powered by the sub at low volumes and sound tinny at high volumes
I would recommend this product to anyone who wants an affordable home -theater system and is living in small quarters.
One final note: The $500-$600 you will pay for this system is really for the receiver and sub-woofer. Do not expect great things out of the speakers, though the receiver is powerful enough to handle nearly any speaker.
