How much is your privacy worth?

Firstly, the actual product is cool. Overpriced, but if you have the money, it is a worthy addition to your home theater. The ability to pause programs and watch what you want when you want it is a step in the right direction.

However, I do have a big problem with the product. Basically, the box is a $1000 marketing tool. TiVo tracks your viewing and is then sold by the company to marketing firms. Although the company says that your personal viewing information will be anonymous, we really have no way of knowing if this is true.

Some will label me as a fool, but I simply feel that if the company is making money not just from the sale of their product, but from the subsequent marketing information, it should not cost us $1000 for this thing. Call me crazy.
