| absoul's Full Review: Boston Acoustics RX 87 Car Speaker |
First off, I love these speakers. I own a Mazda B4000 Extended cab pickup (same as a Ford). The 5X7 is my only option. Looking for speakers I ran across the Infinity Kappas. I had been quite impressed with the Infinity speakers since I first heard their huge 15 inch cabinet speakers that rattle your back teeth. In fact a neighbor in college had a set of these and I cursed them every time he cranked them up to maximum volume of 11, but I secretly craved a set.
I made my pilgrimage to the local speaker outlet stores and priced a huge variety of 5X7s. When I reached "Rip me off Electronics" I was escorted into the speaker room and was completely blown away by the RX87s. The Kappas did not even have a chance. The Boston Acoustics had greater range and had the tight sound, while the Kappas sounded like someone took razor blades to the cones. They were each at 159$ for a pair, so how could I go wrong?
While talking to the sales person he stated he could "cut me a deal" on the RX87s. My jaw dropped when he said 115$ a pair. "Give me 2 pair" I said and practically ran out of the store with the boxes under my arms. Did I mention I am a compulsive shopper?
I installed these the same day and they did not impress me at all. They did not sound at all like they did in the store. I then remembered the speakers in the store had grilles on them. I looked back through my boxes and could find no grilles. It was at this moment I noticed the boxes were labeled CX8.
The sales person had me listen to the high end speakers and after we agreed on a price he gave me the lower end speakers. I was livid.
I talked to 2 supervisors at this store. The salesperson ended up paying for the difference in price and I installed and removed the speakers twice.
Even after all of this.. I still love these speakers. If you have 5X7 cutouts. These are the route to go, hands down. Just do not let them rip you off!
