Pros: You get great programming for a great price.
Cons: Snow build up on the dish messes up receptions. I have added hints to stop this in my opinion. They took our Networks away from us again, so we no longer have ABC, NBC and CBS.

| SherLesa's Full Review: Hughes Networks D1132 Single LNB DIRECTV System |
I purchased my dish almost 2 years ago and I love it!! I used to get cable, and I didn't like the programing. You paid a lot for nothing, with the dish, they offer different packages for your viewing needs.
What you get....
With the satellite dish, you have a main grid. It shows the T.V. shows in grids by the time. You can go to a show that will be on in say..an hour. Hit select and it will show you a summary of what the show is about. And if it is a show you like, you hit "pre-select" and it puts a check next to the show on the grid. When it is time for the show to start, the programing automatically changes to that show you have pre-selected. I love this feature because I will see a commercial for a show I want to see, but then I forget it is on and don't get to see it. With the pre-select option, I can go preselect it and it changes to that channel for me so I don't forget.
Direct Ticket
I like having the "Direct Ticket". This is all of the new movies that have just been released. With the click of a button, you can see a new movie for only 2.99 that is charged to your bill. Instead of going to the video store in the freezing rain or snow, picking out a movie, or the inconvenience of them being out of the new release movie that you had your heart set on seeing, then forgetting to take the movie back on time or being late and charged a late charge. And you can tape the movie on your VCR and watch it over and over if you really like it.
HBO, SHOWTIME, CINEMAX, STARZ & ENCORE
You can also get HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz, Encore and all of the other movie channels for a great price. We get this programming in the winter when there is a lot of snow on the ground and we don't spend a lot of time outside. Then we cancel it in the summer because we spend a lot of time outside. And they don't penalize you for canceling them for a few months, then charge you a reconnect fee. Which is nice.
SEASON TICKET AND LEAGUE PASS
And for the sports lover in your house, You can buy League Pass, Season Ticket and other programing for their favorite sport. If its Football they love, you can buy "Sunday Ticket" It shows every football game played in the season. So if your team is playing but its not on the local stations, with Sunday Ticket you will see every game they play. It may be kind of expensive, but they break up the cost into monthly charges on each bill until it is paid off so its not so hard to come up with the full amount.
CLASSY LOOK
I also like the way the Hughes receiver looks. It is so nice and sleek looking on top of the entertainment center. Its not some ugly little box with the station number you are on like with cable. I also like the fact that the "access card" is hidden behind the window so my children do not take it out and play with it or break it. My friend had a receiver from "the competition" and her access card was in plain view and her 2 year old son was always taking it out and running off with it. So she changed to Direct TV and her son has no clue the card is even there.
HELPFUL HINTS
Also..a helpful hint for those of you that live in an are with a lot of snow. Our local program provider told me to spray "PAM" ( the no stick cooking spray) on the dish. It will not damage the dish in any way and the snow slides right off. With our dish mounted on top of the garage there is no way we can get up there to wipe the dish off. Or if you don't want to spray the dish, they said to hang a plastic garbage bag over the dish part. This will stop snow build up, and not mess up your reception.
All in all we are happy with our dish and the programing we have. I would recommend the dish to everyone, especially the ones that are being jerked around by the cable company.
*******June 20,2000. We went through a company called Goldensky as our satellite provider. We drove by the store one day and everything was business as usual, and the next day I went in to pay my bill (The store was 2 blocks from my house, so I see no reason to send my payment through the mail when I drive by the store all the time) and the store was closed, down and cleaned out. There was a sign on the door saying "To better serve our customers we have closed down this branch of Goldensky". I still fail to see how it better serves us to close the store down, with no notice or anything. So I call the 1-800 number to see where the pay station is, so I can pay my bill. They proceed to inform me that there is no pay station in town, the closest town is Salem Oregon, which is about 500 miles away. He then tells me (like hes doing me a favor) that I can send in my payment each month thru Western Union, but there is a $15 fee to use Western Union. WHO in their right mind would pay and extra $15 just to send in their monthly payment??? This kind of made me a little (big time) mad, so I asked the gentleman if Goldensky buys back the systems from customers that are not satisfied with their service. He tells me no, so I told him to cancel my Satellite subscription, I was going to digital cable. We now have digital cable, and I don't like it nearly as much as I like my satellite, but until they get their business straight, I will put up with it. Oh yeah, and I got my Networks back, so I have ABC, NBC, and CBS back.*******
