Like most people, when I'm on the phone talking with someone that's not all I'm doing. I often put in laundry, get something to eat, feed my animals, etc. Doing all this while holding a phone or putting it on your shoulder is uncomfortable and annoying.
Enter... the cordless headset!
I tried an inexpensive V-Tech standard cordless phone ($59) that had an included headset piece first. It was terrible. The sound was fuzzy, the headset was uncomfortable, and the phone itself was too big to really be portable. So I took that back and got the GE 2-9919 phone from Best Buy for $79.
This phone is GREAT!
The Good:
1. The phone part itself is small enough to fit in a pocket or clip to your belt. Very portable.
2. The headset is comfortable.
3. The sound quality is excellent, both on my end and the other end (from what I've been told)
4. It comes with an extra battery
The Bad:
1. My voice can sometimes be muffled just a bit when talking
2. The cord is a little too long, so it can get in the way sometimes. I wrap it around my back and put the phone in my left pocket to keep the cord out of the way.
3. If you aren't wearing the phone when you get a call, putting on the headset and trying to answer before the answering machine picks up can be a challenge :)
4. The headset is attached, so you can't replace it with a different one.
Another Alternative:
There is a higher-priced model that has caller-ID on the phone part, but it was another $30 at Best Buy, and I didn't think it was worth it.
Overall, I'm very happy with this phone. It frees me to do so much more while talking on the phone - even if it is something as simple as putting in laundry. And waiting online for a half hour for tech support? No problem. No more sore shoulders from trying to hold the phone while keeping both hands free.
I highly recommend this phone. If not this model, at least try SOME cordless hands-free phone. You'll love it too.
