Portable MP3 players aren't worth the cost

Portable MP3 players are a tremendous waste of money. If you would like to hear your mp3 collection away from your computer here are 5 reasons why a cd-writer would be much better.
1. Its very fast and easy to decode your mp3 files to wavs and burn them to a cd. There are even some programs that convert it directly from mp3 to CD Digital Audio format. This wouldn't take much longer than it does to download them to your portable mp3 player. Afterwards you just pop your cd into your portable cd player which take about 10 seconds. Instead of waiting several minutes to load mp3s into your portable mp3 player each time you want to use it.
2. The average mp3 player is very limited to how much NEAR-cd quality audio you can have. Without a memory extension you only get about a half an hour with most players and even with the very expensive memory extension (over $100) you still don't get as much music as a 74 minute CD-R. There are even 80 minute CD-Rs meaning you can have almost an hour and a half of audio on 1 CD-R. Also if you bring extra cd's with you, you are unlimited to how much audio you can bring with you.
3. Once you have your converted mp3s on a CD-R you aren't limited to playing them on your portable discman. You can put them in your cd boombox, your CD changer, etc. If you download them to your portable mp3 player, you can only play them there and even then only until your batteries die or you wish to delete and mp3 to add a new one.
4. The CD-Writer isn't much more expensive than a portable mp3 player, if you know where and when to get it. I got mine, a Memorex CD-ReWriter, for $99 brand new on sale. Generic brands are even cheaper.
5. There are many other privileges from spending your money on a CD-Writer than on a portable mp3 player. You can make cds from mp3s you have as well as from other cds, tapes, vinyls, etc. You can back up information on your computer such as your extensive mp3 collection. If you save the mp3s in a cd-rom format with out converting them, you can save over 10 hours of them. If you save them in CD Audio format, you save an hour of them and can play them in any cd player.
Until portable mp3 players cost less than $100 and can play over an hour of CD quality sound, I recommend just getting a cd-writer instead and just playing your cd-r's created from mp3's in your discman. Your discman is a little bigger and has moving parts etc, but at least you are familiar and know how to use it. You don't want to be on the go and have something go wrong with your new high tech mp3 player and not have your little user guide with you to know whats going wrong with it. On the other hand, you know how your discman works and it won't be such a hassle.
