Install it Yourself!Mar 16 '00 Write an essay on this topic.Ever wanted to know how to install a car stereo yourself? Of course, doing the installation yourself does save a ton of money on labor but you still need to know the basic on what goes in to each installation. I would recommend you disconnect the power supply to the car, meaning disconnect the battery. Not doing so could be very bad :) Get Manuals You need to find some type of manuals on how to pull the old stereo out of the car. The new cars that are being made are getting harder and harder to figure it out yourself, so i would definetly recommend finding some type of document on how to pull off the face. Get all the tools and pull it out! Once you find out how to take everything off, you're set to pull the old radio out. Pull off the antennae cable and the rest of the cables from the back. Once the radio is free from the wires, pull the thing out! Install the new wiring harness Hopefully, when you bought your new radio, the person also told you about a wiring harness for your car. Here's the part where you need to cut wires and pull off the jackets. Each wires are color coded and tagged with flags that tell you what each wires does. Put them together and plug in into the new radio. Put your new radio back in and play! Push back in all the wires and make sure to attach the stereo antennae so you can listen to the radio as well. Put back all the parts you took off and screw everything back in and reconnect the battery. Start it up and let it play! If the radio doesn't play, make sure you didn't blow a fuse. If any of the main power cables touch metal it will short out and blow a fuse. It's not that big of a deal. Fuses are very inexpensive. Find the fuse box and drop a new fuse in. If that doesn't help, see if everything is plugged into the back of the radio. That should be everything you need to know about how to do it yourself! Have fun! |
