| jared_ellars's Full Review: RCA DS2232ND Dual LNB DIRECTV System |
I love my RCA DirectTV system. I loved it so much that I bought two of them. This system is very easy to setup and it has so many options, that I keep finding new ones everyday.
Reasons for loving it...
1. Again, ease of setup. Only takes about 1 - 2 hours to setup and get running.
2. You can setup different profiles for each family member, to help control what they watch, and spend on stuff.
3. The menus are very informative and mostly correct, but every once in a while, the programming is off and displays wrong program.
4.The reciever is smaller and sleeker looking that the older ones, that were bulky and ugly looking.
Things that I like to see changed...
1. The new controller that comes with it is to small and cramped. If you get big finger like me, you hit more than one button at a time.
2. The menus are harder to read than the old units, they are real bad of you have a small screen tv.
3. IF you have older cable in you house you usually have to replace the cable that runs from you dish to the reciever, you will have to replace it with RG-6 cable, which can be a pain.
4. During storms the signal will cut out. It will always happen when you are watching something important to you.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the system. The only major problem is the replacing cable in your house, which can become a major job. I would really recommend that system to everyone. Don't worry about the setup, it is easy. With the amount in programming and the money that you will save, you will also be a happy customer along with me. The system will replace your cable so well that you will never miss it at all.
Update, RCA warrenty is a joke
July 12 2000
The reciever blow up in one of my dishes. Still being in warrenty I called RCA to get a replacement. They were going to charge me $75 to get a new reciever or I could have this one repaired for the same amount. The warrenty only covers the parts and after 30 days, you pick up the labor cost. Screw that, I am going to my local Radio Shack and buy a new reciever for $99.
