| td99's Full Review: Pioneer PureVision PDP-505HD 50 in. Plasma Televis... |
So as of a few weeks ago, my household became the seventh in all of Turkey to own this perfectly stupendous television. I don't know how it came to be, but one day it was decided that we needed the best entertainment system money could buy. I went away to college, and when I came back for summer break, there was the PDP-505HD.
Let me begin by admitting that I am not a technology freak. I own a (fairly phat) computer, though, and being an architecture student, I know about, and deal with, graphics qualities on a daily basis. The 505HD is no laughing matter. We also got a Pioneer DVD system, and what can I say, the output is PERFECT. This set defines 'crystal clear'.
One of the problems we have with it is that the Turkish television cable is not distributed at a high enough frequency, the result being that normal TV looks like 'poop', as another reviewer put it. The solution is definitely to get digital cable, which is coming to Turkey in a few months.
I guess I will see the result next summer break.
One level of versatility I really enjoy is that you can change the viewing size of the set, so that input that is not 'widescreen' will not seem squashed. You can even see a 'zoomed' version, which you can move around. Its really amazing.
And it's SO THIN. 9cm ladies and gents... We had a very slim library on one wall of our living room, which was basically as deep as one of those paperback thrillers you buy in the airport could fit in... THAT'S where the TV fit!!! It looks SO amazing, you see books books books, and suddenly the wide, cool black expanse of plasma screen. People can't resist reaching over and touching it. And the vision quality doesn't change no matter what angle you view the TV from. It is almost a travesty calling it a TV: it is something so much more.
Recommended:
Yes
Amount Paid (US$): roughly $20,000
