My Favorite Channel

Written: Apr 21 '00 (Updated Apr 21 '00)
Pros:Great shows, barely ever re-runs, lots of action, all true, shows the struggle of our nation
Cons:for mature audiences (not in the dirty sort of way =-P), the young ones will be bored

To be quite blunt I spend all of my free time on the computer. If I'm not doing homework i'm almost always on the computer either playing quake or talking to people. When my dad has had enough of me being on all weekend he forces me to get off and watch T.V. (yes he has to force me).

When I do watch T.V. (which is rare) the only thing that i can stand to watch is the history channel. For some reason stories of war and human struggle have always appealed to me.

Over the summer I became a "Civil War Buff" most of this was due to watching Civil War journal early in the morning and other specials on battles like Vicksburg, Sharpsburg, and m personal favorite Gettyuburg. I even made my parents take me down to Gettysburg as a family vacation. A recent favorite was "WW2 in Color" which actually got me off my computer at 9 for a whole week!

You don't have to be a "Buff" of a war to appreciate the channel. A love for history in general is all you need. No one gets bored from watching what out grandparents did in WWII, or even how the nation dealt with traumatic events such as the death of John F. Kennedy. They even got shows going over the history of cars if that's what you like. I'm not into cars at all but I still find myself watching the car history shows.

As the old saying goes "Those who don't learn about history are doomed to repeat it" (or something along those lines) the History Channel gives us many reasons as to why we must all learn about our history. We are here because of the extra-ordinary sacrafices that have been made in the past by ordinary people such as you and me.

Also check out their great website www.historychannel.com which has some great information and also a weekly poll and even a "today in history" special.
