Well, my main reason for purchasing this phone was because I travel quite frequently to Europe and I needed a phone that could be used globally and also have email,SMS,Voicemail and Numeric Paging! Well, I had tried things like the rental GSM phones and that worked for the phone part but as for the Email,SMS,Voicemail and numeric paging I was up a creek with those phones and they were expensive! So i went on the hunt for a phone that would serve all of my purposes and this hunt was extensive it took about 2 months to find a suitable phone and that was the Bosch 718 world which i have also written an opinion on now my reason for getting rid of that one and buying this Erisson was because i also needed data capability and they had stopped making accessories for the Bosch so i was forced to find an alternative! After some more searching I ran across this phone which at first I didn't like because it only came in blue but once I saw one I love its sleek design and the blue looks very modern and right then I decided that this would be the phone for me! I mean it has all of the features and still looked great so out came my trusty Visa!

Well, in my opinion the best and main reason I bought this phone was because of its GSM ability now for those of you who don't know what GSM is I will explain it! GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) is a digital mobile telephone system that is widely used in Europe and other parts of the world. GSM uses a variation of TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) and is the most widely used of the three digital wireless telephone technologies (TDMA, GSM, and CDMA). GSM digitizes and compresses data, then sends it down a channel with two other streams of user data, each in its own time slot. It operates at either the 900 MHz or 1800 MHz frequency band.
GSM is the DE facto wireless telephone standard in Europe. GSM has over 120 million users worldwide and is available in 120 countries, according to the GSM MoU Association. Since many GSM network operators have roaming agreements with foreign operators, users can often continue to use their mobile phones when they travel to other countries.
So basically this means that if you bought a GSM phone from your local mobile phone retailer you could take it almost anywhere in the world and use it on one of the carriers in that area. I have found this to be a truly beneficial thing to have! Its definitely a great thing if you have tried renting a GSM phone or get tired of having to give out hotel numbers or keep having to give out new numbers everytime you travel with this GSM ability its one number anywhere in the world the people calling you don't even have to dial an area code just dial your number! The next feature on my list of wonderful features would be the Voice Dialing! This is a wonderful invention for those of us who insist on using the phone while driving and if you are reading an opinion on a cell phone you more than likely have one and you know what i mean :) The voice dialing is very easy to use you simply slide a small button on the side of the phone up and then say the name of the person you want to call and presto it dials! Now this Voice Dialing does take some set up and i will explain so you know what you are in for! First off you go into the "Phone Book" as it is referred to in the phone and select Add New Number once you do this you give it the written name and number of the party and select save then it asks you if you wish to add a voice label if you select yes it asks you to say the name of the party after the tone. Once you have done this you choose save and you have completes your first Voice Dialed Number! To store more numbers you simply repeat the process! Next up on the wonderful feature list would be Email ability! This may seem odd but if you think about it this gives you the ability to receive email anywhere in the world now this feature is provider dependent but if your US provider supports it WILL work when GSM roaming! At first it is slightly hard to type with the small keypad but with practice it becomes very quick and efficient! I have found that being able to send email to reply right away is a wonderful asset! Next feature would be its lightweight and size! This thing is so small it is only 2 inches wide and 4 inches tall when closed and 6 inches long when open! Now you might think that this means it is hard to use but it is very well designed and everything on it is right where it needs to be. Also this phone only weighs 3 oz which means you can put it in your shirt pocket and forget you have it until it scares you from ringing :) The last but not least feature I am going to talk about would be the VibraAlert! Now as you might know on most phones this is optional this means buying some new battery! Well, with this phone it is STANDARD and I love this feature it is absolutely perfect for meeting or movies or anywhere that you need to be silently alerted. Also activation of "silent mode" is a breeze just hold the "C" button for 4 seconds and press yes when it asks if you wish to activate silent mode and you are done! The same follows for deactivation! I have found this to be very very useful also in meetings where when someone calls it vibrates 4 times and the forwards to your voicemail and also it alerts you to a voicemail by vibrating in pulses. This is truly a wonderful feature! Next up is the battery life! This phone has the best battery life of any phone I have ever used! On average I use it 2 hours per day and it still never gets below 50% power! And charging is very fast I can go from 0 to 100% in 30 mins of charging time thanks to the STANDARD high speed charger so if you use your phone more that 4 hours a day just take you charger with you to lunch and charge it there in only 15 mins:) So if you need a phone with a great battery life than this is the one!
* Call Quality
As far as call quality goes this phone is truly unbelievable! Unlike most phones you actually don't have to yell into this one just simply talk as if you were there with the person on the other end and they can hear you just fine. Also hearing the person you are talking to is very easy the sound is crisp and clear and can be adjusted to extreme levels! For example I was downtown at rush hour and everyone was honking and engines and all that noise and I had my phone at 50% volume and I could hear just fine! No more "What did you say" for either side of the call that's the great part! This phone never breaks up your speech to the other person nor does it fuzz or distort your speech! I have had friends think I am at home on a land line! Now my friends never ask me if IM on a cell phone because they cant tell that how good this phone sounds! I have also noticed that the microphone is VERY sensitive! Great for in movie if someone you have to talk to calls you can whisper into the mic and the can hear you perfectly and not always be saying "HUH?". This phone in my humble (somewhat long) opinion is better on call quality than a land line! So if you want a phone with great call quality and great volume definitely get this one!
* Reliability
As far as reliability goes this phone shines just like it does everywhere else! I have never encountered a dead battery even if I leave it on in the car over night and come out in the morning its still ready for action! Due to its magnificent battery life this phone is always there for you no matter what you want to do or where you want to go! And speaking of where you want to go this phone can go almost anywhere and still get reception! I have been in basements,80 story sky scrapers,4 floors under ground, in powerplants I mean anywhere and it still gets a signal I have NEVER and IM proud to be able to say this! I HAVE NEVER MISSED A CALL DUE TO NO SIGNAL! AND I HAVE NEVER NOT BEEN ABLE TO MAKE A CALL DUE TO NO SIGNAL! Also I think I should address GSM reliability. This phone performs admirably on GSM! It always finds a suitable service regardless of my location in the world and I can always still send and receive email! This phone is so reliable under all conditions that it should be illegal! This is truly the best phone under all conditions! It will NEVER LET YOU DOWN!
* Durability
As for durability this phone is virtually indestructible! It may seem flimsy at first but it is not at all! Here are a few examples of things I've done to it. I have dropped it down 4 flights of stairs and it shows NO evidence it still works just fine and doesn't even have any scratches! Also one time I dropped it down and elevator shaft and when it hit the bottom I heard a huge crack and I figured I was in big trouble well I got the service guy to get it out for me and all that had happened was its battery came off! THAT'S ALL! And lastly I went to put it in my pocket and missed my pocket and it fell onto cement bottom first and from the sound it made I thought I was gonna be back at my retailer for a new one but to my surprise I picked it up and it was undamaged! This little thing will last me forever and it will last you forever if you make the wise decision to get one!
* Overall Satisfaction
Overall I would have to say Ericsson makes the finest and highest quality phones on the market if this is any example of their quality! I intend to keep this phone for a very very long time and I am sure it will provide me with years and years of faithful service! Overall I am astounded with this phone I feel it is the best investment I have ever made on any electronic gizmo to date! And I have a lot of them! This is definitely my most prized possession! I hope my girlfriend doesn't see this :) Well as always I hope you like and have enjoyed my opinions and feel free to view my others and leave comments on how I can better them! DYQ685
