| dkozin's Full Review: JVC MX J500 Stereo Mini System |
The MX-J500 produces 120 Watts per channel (RMS, according to manufacturer’s claims). It features 3-way speakers (6 5/16" woofer, 2" midrange and 1 5/8" tweeter) and bass reflex for better bass reproduction.
The system has a 3-CD changer with JVC’s “trademark” design – 3 separate trays for each disk. This system might be somewhat more convenient than the “regular” carousel changers, but I think it will be less reliable. It is also a bit noisy and slow to change the disk, compared to carousel.
The dual-cassette decks have full-logic control, auto reverse and music scan. J500 provides you with 32 tracks of programming, tape editing features and CD synchro-start. Play exchange allows to replace one CD while another one is playing. In case of carousel changers, you can usually replace one of CDs while another one is playing. With JVC’s triple-tray system, you can replace two discs while the third one is playing.
J500 has an AM/FM tuner with 15 AM and 30 FM station memory and equilizer with 3 preset and 3 manual equalization settings. The powered rolling panel design conceals controls when not in use and rolls them into view when you need them – a neat feature one could leave without.
The system has an optical digital output, so it is compatible with latest digital technology of sound transfer. There are 3 timers – a sleep timer that shuts the system off after the predefined period of time, daily timer that allows you to turn the system on every day at a specified time (to wake you up, etc.) and a record timer that allows you to record you favorite radio program from the tuner.
The system has a full-function remote control and JVC provides a one year warranty on both parts and labor.
The system looks nice and the sound is excellent! The sound quality throughout the frequency range is very good, there is no lack of either bass or medium-frequency sounds. Of course, the system does not have a subwoofer, so the bass range is limited, but for this price range, J500 provides excellent sound.
If you are looking for 3-CD non surround sound system, J500 is an excellent choice.
