| Uxorious's Full Review: Bang and Olufsen BeoCom 6000 2.4GHz Cordless Phone |
First off - as with all other B&O equipment - this phone is a statement in itself. People will look at it and admire the looks - guaranteed.
The phone itself is excellent. It's a 2.4 GHz phone and thus the quality of the sound as well as the range is very good. There is practically never any static on the line (although I've found that the microwave oven makes it pop and sparkle if I'm close)
It's a full featured phone with full support for all features - call waiting ID included. Also it has built in buttons for controlling B&O equipment volume ... neat if you have that - who cares otherwise.
Additionally the base station can control several (I think it's like 6 but am not sure) handsets - great for multiple rooms. (And all those phones can be set up to share the phonebook if so desired ... VERY nice!)
The controls on the phone are simply awesome. There is a dial in the middle of the handset that is used to control volume when talking - as well as selecting letters when entering names in the phonebook. This dial is the most convenient way I've yet seen of doing this. It's just so natural.
One bad design in the control is the "flash" button. When you need to switch over to the second line you need to first push the "shift" key - then the flash button. A separate key would have been nice!
Oh I almost forgot. On the back of the phone there is a little LED that blinks when somebody is using the phone. WAY nice that you don't have to lift the reciever interrupting whomever is talking ... you can instantly see if the line is available.
**** UPDATE 12/17/2000 ****
I forgot to say anything regarding the voice quality.
Under almost all conditions the quality is indistinguishable from a landline. The reason I'm qualifying it is this: The phone detects the volume of the area you're standing in - and adjusts the microphone sensitivity after that. So when you're for instance standing in a quiet room and are not saying anything it will start picking up small noises in the room and play them back in the speaker. It sometimes annoys me when I dial a number - but smacking your mouth snaps it back to a normal level again. Aside from that minor annoyance the sound is great.
