| ognek's Full Review: Boston Acoustics 4" Two-Way RC41 |
My car's old system uses all Boston Acoustic Pro-series speakers, 2 sets of 5.4 components, 1 pair of 6.4 midbass and 1 pair of 12.4 subwoofer. When I changed my car, I had to move my system, unfortunately the new car wouldn't allow 5" speakers on the factory door speaker location. So I decided to re-think my system and decided that I will use a 3 way setup upfront and just subwoofers in the rear. So I shopped around for a pair of 4" midranges (I already have the 6" boston for midbass and the 5.4's tweeters and passive crossovers). Most 4" midranges that I found were to tall to fit my door and the only one's that would fir are 4" midranges from boston acoustics (either 4.4 Pro or RC41). I was first sceptical on the RC41 since they were Rally series or also known as budget series of boston acoustics, but the pro series were just too expensive and I won't be needing the tweeter and the crossover either. The shop where I have my stuff installed also knew I was uncomfortable in using the RC41, but the owner told me he will let me install it and listen to it before deciding on purchasing it. So went ahead with the setup, ALpine CD player and CD Changer, Phoenix Gold (PG) PLD-1, PG EQ215x equalizer, PG AX204a crossover, (3) PG MPS-2240 24watts x 2 amplifiers, Boston Acoustics Pro 6" midbass on the kick panel, Boston Acoustics Rally 4" midrange on the door, Boston Acoustics Pro tweeters also in the kick panels and (2) Boston Acoustics Pro 12" subwoofer on a ported enclosure in the trunk. Wiring, interconnects and fuses all by PG. After the install and a few tweaks of the EQ, I was amazed on the sound quality of the Rally speakers, they were able to keep up with the pro series speakers even when the volume was cranked up. I haven't heard a better speaker with in it's class range. The speaker is now over 2 years old and it still sounds like when it was new.
