| buschman98's Full Review: Velodyne 12" Powered Subwoofer VA-1012X |
I won this sub in a very fortunate and underadvertised ebay auction for a mere $242. I couldn't be happier with the sub. It does everything you'd ever want from a subwoofer. Its 100 watts is more than enough to rattle any room. If you want a subwoofer with a punch, it has it. If you want a subwoofer with absolutely no distortion, you found it. It performs through and through.
Among the numerous great features of this sub, the downfiring 12" passive radiator totally covers the room in bass, with the 10" front firing woofer adding the impact needed for really powerful sound. Properly placed in the corner, you'll never buy anything but velodyne again.
When it comes to music this sub is fabulous. Its perfectly clean and smooth. Absolutely no muddled bass here. Whether you like hip hop, classic rock, jazz, classical, alternative, or heavy metal, this sub will reproduce bass perfectly. This sub is truly the center piece of my home system and I'm sure it will be for you too if you pick one up. Just for fun listen to "Paul Revere" by Beastie Boys and you'll understand the capabilities of this unit.
For hometheater its just as breath-taking. For explosions, crashes, thumps, collision, or any other powerful sound, the sub will knock your socks off. With DVD's it'll execute the LFE of that 5.1 flawlessly. You won't hear a better sub out there, especially for the price.
So do yourself a favor if you're shopping for a sub and pick up a velodyne, I promise you won't regret it. You should be able to find one for about $550.
