| raz00's Full Review: Nokia 6150 GSM Cellular Phone |
i have been meaning to get my hands on the nokia 6xxx series phone for quite some time now, before this its the 3210 which had the privilege of servicing my communication needs(which had been reviewed).after scouring for any bits of information regarding 6xxx series i decided to take the plunge and get a brand new 6150.
briefly, the 6xxx series nokia phones comprise basically the 6110 and later the 6150.there are other phones in this series like the analog-digital versions and other versions for the US markets which i am not familiar with.the 6110 is single band(gsm 900) while 6150 supports dual band.the latest addition is the 6210 which harks back to the classic nokia lines of the 6110 minus antenna and supports wap.
available in blue and red(raspberry) the 6150 looks much better in flesh than in pictures.finishing of the phone is ultra excellent, with none of the drabness of the 5110-appearance wise it compares well with phones young enough to be it's son-you really have to hold it in your hands to appreciate it pictures dont do justice at all to its looks.the parts of the body fit together very well and there are no uneveness in its assembly.the buttons are made of rubber like material and gives good feel and grip.there is a nice positive feel when pressing the buttons-not too vague or too hard.just right. All this is to be expected of course with the nokia 6150 placed as high end product targetted to the business community.
exciting looks and finish, but probably wouldn't appeal to a teenager(nokia has the 3310 for that)
menu wise this phone is a tad complex to navigate compared to nokia phones with navi key like the 5110 and 3210.instead it has 2 left and right keys with variable functions(depend on the item which appears above it in the screen).the right key serves as a direct entry to phone book on main screen mode.a scroll control with up and down buttons situated between the abovementioned keys complete the navigation side.however going through all of it once or twice is enough for the average user to get used to the menu.nokia has always made user friendly phones.
graphics is excellent as in all late model nokia phones(need we say more) 'however i find the lighting to be a little dim compared to the say,3210 it is not that dim as in the siemen c35(very irritatingly dim lighting in the siemens).the screen on the 6150 is also smaller than 3210 but this is not much of a problem.
THE WINNING FEATURE-menu functions'there are plenty of things to do in the menu example under 'profiles' you can set the phone under pager mode, meeting mode, outdoor mode with varying types of ring tones and volume for each setting-lets say u are in a meeting and want to be alerted only with messages emitting the tiniest beep and no sound for incoming calls.all are possible you can even rename each profile(except general) to your own taste.you can send phone no.s over sms or via infrared red to compatible equipment.caller group functions with logos that can be sent makes receiving calls so much more interesting.even if you are not a businessman these things will give you fun on a rainy day.
battery life is exceptional-expect no less performance ala 5110,a week use between charges can be expected.
reception-among the kings of the air, this phone will give you reliable reception and voice clarity
built quality-ultra solid i have not the misfortune of dropping it but the solid feel gives me assurance to the extent of carrying it casually.
