| rubarb's Full Review: JVC TU-7100DU Integrated Dish Network Satellite TV... |
I recently was faced with a decision of cable or dish for my new home. I really researched it and asked for all the input I could to make the decision. I finally decided to purchase a dish network dish-player system. I purchased this system from a department store for $200. The price was a little high but the whole $200 was refundable after 6 weeks of programming. The deal also came with free installation. So basically, I got a free system professionally installed and all I had to do was pay for the service.
The model of receiver I purchased was the JVC 7222. This is a dish-player system with all the advanced features like: user controlled TV listings; program search; pause; digital record; rewind; web TV; etc… There really are many features on this receiver but you have to pay for many of them, and they ain’t cheep. I opted for the basic service, which still allows me to record for a limited amount of time, and pause. These features are very handy.
The overall appearance of the on-screen software was nice. I have seen other systems that the guide and other features look fuzzy on screen. All user screens have a crisp image. I found the workings of the system, and menu navigation easy to learn. The remote has many buttons on it and many features only require one button press. The layout of the remote is a little awkward though. With all those buttons, some of the more often used features are hard to reach.
I have heard other people say that the system runs a little loud. I really don’t understand this. The only time I hear it is when the TV and receiver are off it is a quiet day and the hard-drive is still accessing. The system does run hot. The manufacturer says nothing can be placed on top of it because of heat reasons, and I believe them. I would recommend making sure there is good ventilation to the system.
One other item worth mentioning. I have called their technical support a few times now and they are knowledgeable and polite. They didn’t hound you to buy stuff either.
Overall I have been very pleased with my decision to get a dish, my decision to go with dish-network, and my decision on this model. The only real complaint I have is the speed. The search function and just changing channels takes to long for the picture to re-appear.
