VR623HF

Oct 14 '00

I got an RCA VR623HF 4-Head VCR from buy.com for $79.99 including shipping.

It was fairly easy to set-up and connect. It automatically scans for channels, but I have to make some manual changes after it scans.
The remote works fine from anywhere in the room.
I don't have cable and use an 'amplified' RCA rabbit-ears/UHF antenna.
The new VCR seems to bring in more/better signals than my old VCR, an Emmerson which lasted only 3 years :(.
The playback and record picture is fine (on my old 14inch TV).
The programing is 'user friendly', however, there is no way to change a program after it is saved(for example if you want to change the channel or record-speed). You have to 'delete' the program and re-enter it from scratch.
It sets the VCR clock automatically from our local PBS station.
The audio-vidio plugs for attaching a camcorder are on the front of the unit which is convenient.

It forgets its settings, including the channels when it is unpowered for a few minutes. This is annoying!

Overall, I am pleased with the purchase.
