| tfung's Full Review: B&W Nautilus HTM1 Bookshelf Speaker |
B&W's been around for decades, but the company has recently revamped most of its lines with its Nautilus technology. These speakers employ acoustic principles that dictate curved cabinet shapes; it just so happens that the curves look very stylish, too.
The Nautilus 800 Series features two center-channel speakers, the HTM1 ($2000/each list) and HTM2 ($1000/each list). The HTM1 is the more expensive of the two, offering dual woofers, a midrange and tweeter, whereas the HTM2 sports a single woofer and a tweeter. That's not to say that the HTM2 is a low-end model. Compared to most center speakers on the market, it's high-end. It'll probably perform fine for most applications, but if you're sparing no expense in building your home-theater setup, you'll probably want to go for the HTM1.
The HTM1 is a three-way design, unlike most center speakers. It uses a sealed cabinet that houses two 6-1/2-inch Kevlar/paper-fiber woofers, a 1-inch metal dome tweeter and a single 6-inch woven Kevlar mid-range unit -- magnetically shielded versions of the units used in the Nautilus 804.
